SHOOTING INCIDENT
At about 8:00 pm on Saturday the 6th day of March 2010, Police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital's trauma room where one Tyrone Thomas, 27 of a Belize City address was seen with an apparent gunshot wound to the left upper arm. Initial investigation revealed that at about 7:50 pm on Saturday the 6th day of March 2010, Thomas was standing at the corner of Trinity Street and Central American Boulevard when suddenly a male person dressed in black clothing approached him riding on Central American Boulevard from the direction of Matura Street. According to Thomas, as the male person was passing him, several shots were fired at him, causing the injury. Thomas was treated and released.
SUDDEN DEATH
On Sunday 7th March 2010 at 3:30am police officers attached to Orange Walk Formation Town responded to a report of fight in progress at a Disco in Orange Walk Town. Upon arrival police observed three persons, including a Police Corporal in an ongoing fight. The two civilians, who were later identified as Matias Duran, a Custom Officer and Shawn Richards, both of Orange Walk Town were detained and placed in the pan of the police vehicle, to be escorted to the Station. Whilst the vehicle was traveling on Queen Victoria avenue heading to the station Duran reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and fell on the ground, injuring his head. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital and later transported to the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital where he died undergoing treatment. His body now awaits a postmortem examination.
The Commissioner of Police has appointed a team of officers from outside of the Orange Walk Formation to investigate this incident.
